I went to Wilpattu for a day trip with 2 fellow photographer friends in the 3rd week of June. Although we went anticipating to confront at least one pair of cubs as there are a few at present, we were unfortunate not to see any and overall the trip was not a good one.
Woolly necked stork
Eurasian thick-knee
A lone elephant feeding
Grey headed fish eagle
This was a treat. A nesting of a Sri Lanka grey hornbill. The unique thing is once the female goes inside , the male closes the entrance with mud leaving only a small hole and feeds the female till the eggs are hatched. We could see only the beak of the female at times.
Rudy mongoose
Brown fish owl
The eye of a serpent eagle
Lesser adjutant stork
Emerald dove
Common kingfisher
Sri Lanka sloth bear
