CAMPING IN WILPATTU PARK IN SEPTEMBER 2016 ........

I was in Wilpattu  with my daughter and 11 others ( mostly my close relations) in the 1st week of September 2016 and camped in KOKMOTE near the river. It was the furthest  camping and accommodation site and is more than 50 k.m from the entrance  and takes 2 hours .

Copper-smith Barbet

Indian Robin
 Sri Lanka Hornbil
 Indian   Paradise  Flycatcher
Wooly necked Stork

 Camouflaged

This  is  the only Leopard we saw  at the same place all the time on 3 occasions. May be it had a kill on a tree close by .

This  was in the  2nd day morning and it started stalking the Deer  a little further  to the left due to the animal instinct perhaps more than the hunger

And it was this close but did not continue......

This was my favorite shot : A Green Bee-eater toying with a Bee

 Pacific Golden Plover

This was when we were going back for breakfast after the round.
Very rare  Sri Lankan Chameleon /; Bodiliya

This one is called :GHOST MANTIS" and looks like fallen twigs.

Juvenile Changeable Hawk Eagle
Although generally shy, we saw a few Barking Deer and looked quite human friendly.

VISIT TO YALA YET AGAIN.....

I was in Yala again in the last week of  July 2016 with my family my cousins family( who lives in Dubai) and a family known to her. We had a great time and to top it off we were able to see and photograph many animals and birds.

We saw this one on our first visit in the afternoon .

This was the icing  on the  cake .This was at 6a.m. on the 2nd day and the first time I saw the Bear facing me and coming towards us . It was quite unperturbed and oblivious to the presence of many vehicles and many had to reverse and give way as it went about doing the thing.

May be a friendly fight....

Yellow Wattled Lapwing
This Jerdan's bush Lark was cleaning at a rate

Brown fish Owl
Gray headed fish Eagle
Asian Paradise Flycatcher

A male Baya Weaver Bird

Green Imperial Pigeon
Fan tailed Flycatcher

Motherly love...
Mother and the cub
Fish converging at our bathing place near the bungalow
Elephants were very  scarce and  may be the northern migration  has started

Eurasian Thick nee

We were waiting for this  Leopard to cross a little further up and went looking the other way .Two minutes later he had crossed and we were lucky this time as we returned  it crossed  again.

Eurasian  Hoope
This one  we saw just before we returned to "Varahana" bungalow( in which  were staying) in the evening and the lighting was very poor.

This was the  last sighting in the morning of the last day.
