FINALLY CONFRONTING THE MOST ILLUSIVE SRI LANKA SLOTH BEAR IN YALA. . . . . . . .

I was in Yala in the 4th week of May 2014  with a friend of mine camping at " Negeniyantota" camp site and after 21 years of visiting almost all the national parks in Sri Lanka on a regular basis , finally  was able to photograph the most illusive Sri Lanka Sloth Bear and I was thrilled to bits.

This sighting was made at 5.45 in the morning. Luckily the sun rises early in the morning these days and thus I was able to photograph this early.

 Pied Malabar Hornbill

We were able to see a couple of Elephants at close range including this young  tusker

We lit a camp fire in the night

This Leopard was seen very early and disappeared fast.

It was completely dry  and we were able to manure the vehicle without a fuss even though it got stuck like this.
 Adjutant stork
The friendly Deer at Buthuwa Bungalow.
The wild Boar having a dip
 Iguana with a monstrous frog

 Another Leopard

The breakfast was laid in the "Kumbukkan Ouya."

 A Sambur

This wild buffalo was really enjoying the mud bath
 Green PIGEON
 Yellow Wattled Lap wing

 A python

 Indian Nightjar
We were on our way to the camp site and this Leopard came towards us and passed by going to the water hole to drink water around 6.20 but luckily there was enough day light to capture the movements.

A very rare but a soothing sight

After drinking it walked in front of our vehicle  at leisurely pace marking it's territory  for another 20 minutes or so .....

. . . . . . and then doing some lazy stuff oblivious to our presence.

We saw this very rare wild cat (Rusti -Spotted Cat) the following morning but did not give much of a chance to focus on it.
