After more than a years lapse, I got a chance to go to Yala for a full day safari in the 1st week of October 2023 with 2 fellow photographers. Although the weather was ok 2-3 days before that, it had rained heavily the previous week but we took a chance. We were extremely lucky that we were able to see a few nestlings that we wanted to cover as well as a good leopard sighting and the main thing was the weather gods were very kind to us and it started to pour only after we exited the park entrance.
Endemic Sri Lanka Green pigeon
One of the paradise flycatcher nesting in the first stage or so.This is the 2nd one where one has already fledged when we saw perched nearby and the other 2 were been fed.
One of the 2 tried vigorously to fly and before we left the place was able to fly
The one left was also trying hard to fly and most probably would have gone during the day.
Another nesting and the male was doing the hard work this time.
Serpent eagle
After a long time, we got a chance to get close and click this Eurasian hoopoe
This one was on the ground ....
Rock pigeons
Oriental honey buzzard
been vigilant
This green bee eater was either bathing or hunting insects from the surface
This has become a rare occurrence since of late. A nest building by baya weaver birds.
Lesser whistling ducks
This was a super sight. Our tracker started looking for the Leopard after an alarm call and was very smart pointing it out at a distance and amidst a heap of vehicles converging ,was able to anticipate the paths of crossing giving us the best opening to photograph.
Pied Cuckoo
This was only a glimpse
